German clubs are expected to decide in December whether to follow the Premier League’s lead and close the summer transfer window before the start of the season.
The president of the German Football League, Reinhard Rauball, wants the German window to close on August 1 next summer.
German clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg have already said they are in favour of the change.
The 36 clubs in Bundesliga 1 and 2 are likely to vote on any proposed changes at their next general meeting in December.
“I will bring forward a motion to shorten the transfer period,” DFL president, Reinhard Rauball, told SportBild.
“If a corresponding decision is taken, it would be put to vote at the member’s meeting in December.
“If the majority of the 36 professors are in favor, a corresponding application will have to be sent to the international federations via the DFB (German Football Association).
“This year, there has been trading that is no longer justifiable. That’s why a peg must be put in. You can do it that way.”
