Uduak Frank Akpan tried to escape after an Akwa Ibom State high court sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of late Iniubong Umoren.
In the over two hours judgment by the presiding Judge, Bassey Nkanang, the convict was found guilty of rape and murder and sentenced to be hung on the neck till he dies.
Uduakâs father, Frank Akpan, and his sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused) were discharged and acquitted.
In a video captured by BBC News Pidgin, policemen are seen surrounding the area where Uduak had tried to escape from following his sentence. Heâs seen being caught and manhandled into a van as police officers secure the area.
